Getting TO/AROUND: For independent travel from Munich, the train to Dachau leaves from the main train station and takes well less than half an hour. Exit the train station and the bus stop is right in front. Take 724 which goes directly to the entrance (end of the line). Audio guides are located in white containers along the walkway on the left side.
Guided tours leave from the train station as well. One large company has an office behind the track numbers in the lower thirties. Buy your ticket, meet your guiide. Most tours here will take the same train and bus as the independent traveller. The guide has only the advantage of giving discussion and answering questions along the way ( ours gave wrong answers on two questions ).
Other than one set of toilets in the museum there are no facilities of any kind at Dachau. A McDonald's is on the second level of the train station and there are one or two small eateries along the bus route.
The rough gravel surfaces and long distances for walking at Dachau require sturdy comfortable shoes.
