| Forbidden City north gate |
One word to describe Beijing: BIG. Big area with big buildings and a big number of people everywhere you look or go. Progress is all around, construction, commerce, transportation, etc. Consequently, there's traffic both human and vehicular as well as smog. However, the historical sights were astounding. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are the city's centerpiece, the latter encircled by the museum, parliament, and other government facilities. |
| | We went up to the Great Wall and gosh, it's hard to imagine how the medieval guards managed to patrol this wall day and night when the steps are so steep and slippery. Just try to look at how far the wall extends and it's amazing how they built it with primitive tools and brought up stones and materials up the slopes in those days. |
| Home of the best Peking duck |
| | This building houses what the locals claim to be the best restaurant to eat the best peking duck, and they weren't kidding. The duck was tender, lean and juicy. The rest of the food were also terrific. No wonder visiting heads of states were usually feted here as their portraits and autographs hung by the resto's walls. That's why the place garnered 5 stars and 5 diamonds by the country's tourism ratings agency.
The bottomline: You haven't been to Beijing if you've not eaten here. |
