Across the border from Israel | At the Taba border crossing |
From the moment we stepped into Egyptian soil, perhaps the most common phrase you hear from locals are "wandala! wandala!". Translation: "One dollar, one dollar!". I first heard it when we got a baggage cart at the Taba border crossing where the cart has to be paid for with 5 LE (egyptian pounds) or US$ 1. From then on, you hear more of it in shops, stores, souks and people asking for tips or bakseesh.
Here's my wife to announce that she has arrived in the Land of the Pharaohs. |
| | Land of the Sun It hardly rains in Egypt, not surprising as it's desert country. Which is why their tourism TV ads tout that their country offers you the sun as their best attraction. You will certainly get lots of it along with the scorching heat as well. This photo was taken atop Mt. Sinai that we scaled not to look for the 10 commandments tablets, but to catch the sunrise. |
| I've seen the pyramids...now I can die in peace. |
| | The only remaining Old World Wonder The ultimate icon of Egypt: the Giza pyramids. One needs to emphasize Giza as there are other pyramids in Egypt and elsewhere in the world. When one looks at this photo, you might think that these structures are far out in the desert. Actually the city of Giza is just behind them but is well-hidden in the picture. |
