The Western or Wailing Wall is the most sacred place in Judaism. It is the only remnant of the Second Temple that was destroyed in ancient times by the Romans. Today, Jews pray to it and on its crack and crevices they insert small pieces of paper where prayers and petitions are written. I did just that even if I'm not a Jew for I am of the belief that regardless of religion, we all belong to one and the same God. It's just that we have different notions about Him. |
| | Jerusalem is a walled city divided into 4 quarters: Christian, Jew, Muslim and Armenian. The Muslim section is dominated by the Dome of the Rock (seen with the gold dome in the background) where the Prophet was said to have gone up to heaven. |
This place is where Christians believe Christ ascended into heaven. It's on Mt. Olives, a high hill that provides a panoramic view of the old city. There's nothing inside this domed chamber, except an exposed portion of rock on the floor that presumably was where Christ last stood before rising to the sky. Given the place's elevation, such a divine spectacle would have been visible from miles around back then. | | |
