The Land of the Victorious

Around Cairo in a day

The Sphinx and Pyramid
It was explained to us that the name Cairo (El-Khaira) literally means Land of the Victorious.

There are 2 main attractions in Cairo that are must-sees: the pyramids-cum-sphinx, and the Egyptian museum. The first can be seen and appreciated within an hour or two, but it's best to start early to avoid the hordes of buses and tourists. The next stop will be the museum to gawk and marvel at the antiquities. Unfortunately, visitors will just go straight to King Tut's exhibit (awesome as it is) and may disregard the other displays.
The Cairo Tower by the Nile

The world's longest river

The Nile is about a kilometer wide in Cairo but we were told that it gets wider as you follow it south beyond Egypt. It used to be even wider in ancient times as old buildings (some 100 meters from the present riverside) bear the former watermarks on its walls. The river serves as the route for cruise or hotel boats that travel from Cairo to as far as Aswan (just before the dam there). But as the next photo would show, these boats are not just for eating or sleeping.

Shake it, baby! Yeah!!!

On our last night at Cairo, we had a dinner cruise on the Nile that included a cultural show that featured a belly dancer (busty but chubby) and a guy who performed the "tanoura". As you might expect, the lady goes around the tables gyrating with the foreign male tourists for photo ops, or if she likes you drags you from the table onto the dance floor!

Wow, my hubby would like to see the busty belly dancer in person. Glad you had fun in Egypt. I used to work in a bank in Makati :-)
