You haven't been to Egypt without seeing Luxor | A felucca sailing by the Nile |
They say that the Giza pyramids and sphinx are just the proverbial 'tip of the iceberg' when it comes to Egypt's attractions...and they were not kidding.
If you wish to see the grandeur of the temples and other architectural marvels built by the pharaohs, you have to see them where they are: in Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel. These are open-air museums where you can take photos or videos to your heart's content unlike in the Cairo museum. See more of them in my Luxor travelogue. |
| | The 2 temples There are 2 main temples in the city: Luxor and Karnak. Both are ancient ruins that show gigantic columns, statues, obelisks and walls with endless hieroglyphs; upon exit, you leave awed, overwhelmed and marveled by these structures that were built with none of our modern machinery. |
Hmmm...let's see how strong they are I was tempted to topple these columns ala Samson but it would be a pity not to preserve them for future generations so I decided at the last minute to skip it. | | | So this is how Samson did it |
