On the trail to Petra

by stamporama - last update: Nov 3, 2007

I've got Indiana Jones' hat...but not his whip.
I'm about to see one of the 7 New Wonders of the World: the lost city of Petra! To get there, you'd have to walk about 3 kms. to get to the most famous sight known as the Treasury where 1 of the Indiana Jones films was shot. Along the route, you pass through tall and narrow stone passageways like the one above.
Oh wow...absolutely marvelous I could weep.
Then it slowly emerged...the Treasury! It was a sight to behold. Egyptians made their temples by transporting and hauling huge stones. The builders of Petra however carved them out right from the mountain itself! Truly amazing.
Going farther, it appeared that the people who once lived here practically carved not just a building but an entire city from the surrounding mountains. Behind us are the ancient houses made from the mountainsides.
Any bed & breakfast around here?
