The Sea of Galilee is actually a lake, and Tiberias is a major city for tourists. Around the lake are many places of great significance to Christians, like the Mountain of the Beatitudes, St. Peter's house, Church of the Primacy of St. Peter, and the purported tomb of Mary Magdalene (and not at the Louvre as suggested by the "The Da Vinci Code"). |
| | It is also notable that this body of water is frequently cited in the Bible in many events: calming of the storm by Christ, miracle of Christ walking on the water, miracle where apostles hauled in a lot of fish (right after Christ encouraged them) after an entire day catching nothing. If only to experience sailing on the lake, we set out on a boat that took us around a full circle cruise then back to port. Fortunately, no storm struck while we were afloat. |
Tiberias also has a ruin of synagogue which is just right beside the house of St. Peter. The city is famous for a dish named after him, "St. Peter's fish" which is actually tilapia. I was not that all excited or curious to taste it as it is a commonly eaten fish back home. | | |
