The Doubletree Grand hotel, located on North Bayshore Drive, is nothing to write home about.
The hotel is actually the first 10 floors of a much larger building in which the remaining 20 or so floors are private condo units. Also attached to the hotel is a small retail/office complex which houses a convenience store, restaurants, etc..
Service is reasonable, although during the busy holiday periods things can go a bit slow and unpredictable.
There is an outdoor pool which is reasonably well kept and clean. Remember however that this pool is also used by the condo guests, and thus can be very very busy during the weekends and evenings.
The Doubletree Grand is located right at the entrance of the Venetian Causeway on the mainland side of Miami. It is therefore not really near any major attraction, but is central to all. Fast access to the freeway aswell as US1 make it an attractive option for those with car.
Would I stay there again? No. After having been to Miami a couple of time I can say that there are much better places to be found either in Coconut Grove or Coral Gables.
Unique Qualities: Views from the hotel are poor unless you are facing east. Then you will be right over the bay looking onto Miami Beach.
