Have been travelling to Miami several times and enjoying the sun, ocean - and more importantly - the impressive and exhausting nightlife each time. Miami is arguably less like the US, and more like Latin America. In fact, local residents often joke that one of Miami's best qualities is it's proximity to the US! The Latin flavor which permeates all of Miami provides for a wonderful and rich cultural tone throughout the city and ensures that Miami is not just another large US city centre. The vibrant mixture of Carribean, Latin and Central American cultures within Miami means that visitors can be exposed to a host of various cultural and local traditions all from within one city. Having said that, the nightlife in Miami is fantastic and lives up to all the hype. It's like no other place in the world when it comes to the clubs, dancing, the music, the atmosphere.... The days are all about relaxing, lounging on the beach, and trying to simultaneously recuperate and reenergize for the next night's activities. Bring plenty of sunscreen, your hangover cure of choice, and your best dancing shoes.... |
If you have only one week to spend in Miami, then try your best to stay right in South Beach, or in Coconut Grove. South Beach is the heartbeat of Miami and is home to some of the finest establishments in the area. The "Grove" is a slightly smaller community, but also has some fantastic restaurants and clubs. Try to use the weather forecasts as a guide to your plans. Overcast and cloudy days are for shopping, strolling the streets, and maybe even taking a trip up to Ft.Lauderdale. Sunny days are for hiting the beaches and pools. Regardless of weather, nightimes are always about partying! |
Most tourists visit Miami for a couple of days, generally prior to departing for a cruise. If that is the case, then try your best to spend every eveing in a different part of Miami. Perhaps dedicate one night to South Beach, another to Coconut Grove, and perhaps another to Coral Gables. Each has a different vibe, and you will at least get to experience the various level of wildness. Shopping is the other attraction many have to Miami. There are designer stores and boutiques all over Miami as well as several outlet malls and discount stores. If you a fan of shopping, welcome to your new home... If, like me, you despise shopping, then you are well advised to stay away from the malls. |
