  • "The old Dobrich" is a smal "open-air" museum located in the modern downtown on the place where once upon of the time "Odun charshia" existed. It houses about 30 workshops where craftsmen practice their skills. You can see workshops for pottery, furriery, traditional costumes, traditional instruments; woodcarving, coppersmithery, goldsmithery and so many more.

  • there is no way for me to come to the old town and not visit this pottery and buy things. There are lots of other craftsmen here in the old part making all kinds of traditional stuff (traditional costumes and souvenirs and musical instruments)

  • this is how the pottery workshop looks from outside; the name is "Chupi Kupi" which translates into sometghin like " If you break it, you byu it!". It is not so easy to break though. First time i wanted to buy something i was afraid it might be easy to break it during my travel, so the lady took one of the plates and threw it against the floor...it did not break. But she says also that if you break something you'll have to make a new pottery yourself under the guidance of her two sons, who create all these amazing beaty!

  • in the very beginning of the street you will see a little bakery where they bake "gevreci". ..oh, they are so yummy-hot, taken right out of the oven. On the right hand side of the bakery there is a small "boza-djiinica". Here you can eat your gevrek with a fresh made "boza".

    1 gevrek costs 0.30lv (1$=1.6lv)

Lovely page. Had to smile when I read the tip about gevrek. In my language the word means dead. But I am sure that gevrek is not dead at all, but a great thing to eat. Looks like german prezel. ;-)

The gevrek sounds tasty, but I think I would try it with coffee instead of boza.
