Varna is by far one of my favourite big cities in bulgaria. It's a modern city with ancient history (and not so ancient). It was established as a trading colony of Odessos in 600 BC, although there are traces of human presence from around 100 000 BC. In hte 9th century is named "Varna " after Władysław III of Poland (Władysław III Warneńczyk) who fought a battle in 1444 against the Turkish troops as a part of the crusades.

In the summer the city becomes very busy, not only with tourist but with people trying to make money from the tourists. You'd see a chain of cafes with their loud music creating a cacophony. But that is what a tourist city has to pay, right?

What Varna offers beside the beaches and resorts? Beautiful architecture, museums, the marine garden, churches, ruins, shops, great pedestrian zone,aquarium/dolphinarium,...many cafes...well it's hard to get bored here

My favourites are the Archaeological museum, The Roman Thermae, The Asparuhov bridge (most) at night, and just hanging out around the Dramatic theater.

Pros and Cons

Pros:beatiful architecture and the seaside
Cons:soemtimes gets hecctic
In a nutshell:i'd love to live here

The theatre is placed in a very beautiful building. It seems worth exploring even if not planning to see any performances. The brightly painted façade of a restaurant looks lovely too!

Nice page here, I am always interested in Roman ruins. I'm sure the baths were worth finding. So, what's up with the chariot thing? :)
