Established in 1886 as a village in Emma Township, Hesston began to grow as the Missouri Pacific railroad expanded west through the Kansas. By 1912 Hesston had grown into an important shipping and receiving point for farmers throughout the region. The current population of Hesston is approximately 3,500.

Must see sights/attractions include: the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains.

Did You Know

In March 1990 the Hesston Tornado produced two fatalities with about 226 homes and 21 businesses damaged or destroyed.
