"Georgia – Peach State" Georgia by grayfo

Georgia is the ninth-largest state in the US and is known as the "Peach State" or “The Empire State of the South”. It was also one of the original Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution (Shame on you :) ).

The state capital and the largest city is Atlanta

The Peach State is so called because of the importance of peaches in the Georgia agricultural economy.

Georgia was named after King George II, of Great Britain

People who live in Georgia or who come from Georgia are called Georgians.

The Great Seal of the State of Georgia was originally adopted in 1776 although it has been modified since. The front of the seal is centred round an arch with three pillars, the arch symbolising the state's Constitution and the pillars representing the three branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial. The words of the state motto, "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation", are wrapped around the pillars, being guarded by a soldier with a drawn sword, representing the military's defence of the Constitution. The front side motto, surrounding the coat of arms, consists of the words "State of Georgia" in the top half of the circle and the year 1776 on the bottom, commemorating the date of the Declaration of Independence.

The official flag of Georgia consists of a square canton on three horizontal bars of equal width. The top and bottom bands are scarlet and the middle band is white. The bottom scarlet band extends the entire length of the flag. The top two bands extend from the canton to the end of the flag. Centred in the square blue canton is a gold representation of the Georgia coat of arms. Directly under the coat of arms are the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" in upper case letters. Thirteen white five-pointed stars circle the coat of arms and the wording symbolizing the original Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution.
