Canada's first national park, Banff, was established in 1885 and named for Banffshire, Scotland, the home of two Canadian Pacific Railway financiers. In Banff, accommodations during summer are expensive.It is better option to stay in one of the towns outside the park, such as Canmore in Alberta and to make day trips. Canmore is 26 km. west of Banff.

"hot sulfur springs"! Wow, that must stinks, haha! I am joking but usually hot sulphur springs do not smell like roses!

Must have missed this on my visit to Banff NP
Ironically you're not supposed to build in the national park and yet Banff is huge? I wonder how? Canmore is a good tip for less expensive accomodations. Thanks. Bill.
As I said. . .but this one detail has apparently eluded the other Banff reviewers.
My mom and I were at the Cave and Basin 11 days ago. We used to wade in the Basin hot pool when I was a little kid.
