Not a whole lot say - Great trip to Romania

by ddlucy - last update: Apr 27, 2004

Trip to Romania

We had joy of adopting 2 children from Romania - in 1991 and in 1994. Well in 2004, it was time for us to tour their homeland with them. What a memorable trip it was.

What difference a decade makes. I was in Romania just after their 'dark days' of Communism. In the early 90's - water service in Buchurest was spotty and the place was just plain old and tired out. Today this country is gorgeous, alive, and with unlimited potenial.

This is a land of contrast.

You will see the 'well-to-do' of Buchurest in their BMW's. Head to the country and you will see the shepards riding their horse carts heading to their flocks. Both groups are doing just fine.

In the country you will see well kept homes still using a water well ---- yet on top of their home they have a satelite dish.

Fondest Memory:
We toured the country with the kids. Suceava, the painted monasteries, Sighsoara, Bran Castle, Brasov, Buchurest .... we crammed a lot in 8 days.

Sharing this beautiful country with my children was my fondest memory. They have a lot to be proud of.

Yeah there were a few street beggars, nothing like the early 90's. There were 100's of stray dogs --- sort of like our squirrels. Some of country roads were in poor shape

I guess Romania has its problems - but you know something - so does the USA, England, France, and pretty much every where!

Don't miss this country! It is a gem in eastern Europe. You can get your western comforts here, but you can still experience the Romanian charm.

Don't be afraid to tour around. Be a little adventorous. There is always an english speaking Romanian nearby to help.

Business Trips

Stay tuned - I'll Update as they occur
