After arriving at the Santiago airport, our group (the Esperanza Orphanage Project), traveled through the forests and mountain villages of northern Dominican to reach the sandy beaches and shady palms of Sosúa. Our stay would only last one day, enough time to acclimate to the humidity of the Tropics. After a good night's rest and a brisk morning swim, I spent the day wandering through the small resort town. I watched a game of Dominos, played billiards, met fellow travelers and locals alike, and passed through the tourist-filled market set up on the beach. But more than anything, my time spent in Sosúa was used to relax. Esperanza was going to require all of my energy. |
