Charles Bridge: See the Bridge EARLY!

The bridge is a truly amazing site. The whole area around looks like a movie set. I am so glad I was able to visit this beautiful piece of architecture. Be sure to go early! Notice in the photo above that there are not many people on the bridge and there is only 1 vendor. We were there when the tower opened (that's where this picture was taken from) and we were also able to enjoy walking around on the tower without anyone else there. It's very crowded so I can imagine that it gets pretty crazy with more than just a few people at a time. If you are lucky, and wake up one early morning and it's foggy, RUSH down to the bridge! The gothic lines and statues, etc. make for some great pics. By 1pm, the place is packed with people and it's hard to walk around. So again, GO EARLY! :)

Wenceslas Square: Early bird catches the Worm! (or the sunrise)

Getting up with the sunrise can be very rewarding. My husband took this shot early one morning on Wencenslas Square when he went down to have keilbasa and beer before leaving on an early flight. Getting up early can be very rewarding in heavily touristed cities such as Prague, Paris, Venice, etc. It is so peaceful to walk around without the sun beating down on your head and mobs of 10 person tour groups blocking the sidewalk.

Don't miss the view from the top of the clock tower on Old Town Square. If you can, plan your visit for a clear day and bring lots of film. You'll be a mazed at some of the beautiful shots you'll be able to get. And don't forget to act like a tourist and take a gander at Prague Castle through the viewfinder.

You must view this one from the top of the Clock Tower - it is amazing. I just love the architecture on this church, it doesn't look real. It was 200 years in the making with the south tower (the last to go up) finally being completed around 1511.

Things To Do: New Years Eve in Prague!

What a terrific place to be on New Years Eve. The people are so friendly and despite the fact that everyone you see is drinking ALOT, there were no fights, no angry words, etc. We walked around from Old Town Square to Wenceslas Square, until 3am and didn't run into one foul mood! And the fireworks above the Clock Tower on the square were magical. It was quite a scene. Yes, it was cold but if you ever have the chance, DO NOT pass up Prague for a New Years celebration.

Things To Do: Kielbasa - Need I say more?

If you like kielbasa, DO NOT miss the vendors in Prague. They sell the best! And the mustard? Don't get me started - it's sublime. We found our favorite vendor on Wenceslas Square but I imagine there are plenty all over the city with equally good grub. And for under $2, how can you go wrong?

Ridlonj Wed Aug 2, 2006 20:06 UTC "Service isn't always with a smile..." hell, I settle for any service at all, the smile you can keep! Their "service" is nonexistent. | Tricky_Dicky69 Thu Jan 6, 2005 21:21 UTC Loved the Prague pages - great pictures ! We go there in a couple of weeks, can't wait. | OlenaKyiv Wed May 26, 2004 00:35 UTC Welcome to VT! I adored Prague and I see you had fun time there. Here is only thing: I didn't like kielbasa in Prague. Better try it in Kiev ;-) Olenka | JetlagCity Thu May 20, 2004 17:42 UTC I'm totally in awe of your snow pictures - gorgeous! |
