The Scenic Drive Round the Peninsula

The Applecross peninsula stretches out from Wester Ross towards the Isle of Skye. It's no surprise that on a sunny and clear day you'll get incredible views from the coastal road.

The Applecross Inn has a reputation for serving excellent food!

Starting Point: Lochcarron

There are only 2 ways to reach Applecross, so there's one way in and one way out! Most people choose first to take the Bealach Na Ba (Gaelic for "Pass of the Cattle") road. Starting Point would be the charming little village of Lochcarron, which is a beauty spot in itself!

The Bealach na Ba

The road climbs to ca. 600 metres, some 2000 feet. It's a narrow, but very well built single-track road. Unless there's an idiot taking his caravan along or some picture-taking tourists blocking the lay-bys,.. AHEM..., the road not too difficult to negotiate. In dense fog or wintry conditions, it might become a nightmare, though!

Glorious pictures. When I was younger a trip to Applecross was only for the very daring and adventurous because of the road.

Experienced the dense fog on the road to Applecross myself a few years ago. Too bad for the views, but... Never a dull moment!

Winfried, you have so many wonderful pictures with vivid colors. Amazing! Do you use a manual digital camera to capture all these pics?
