Whereas it would be quite wrong to say that tourism doesn't play a role at all for Schwangau, this is a resort that has largely retained the charm of a rural village -- despite being only 2,5 km (less than 2 miles) away from the famous castles of Neuenschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. I strongly advise you to stay here or in the neighbouring small villages rather than in tourist-trappy Hohenschwangau itself. |
