| Connemara at its Best near Roundstone |
Like many place names in Ireland and Northwestern Scotland, Roundstone is phonetically derived from a Gaelic word meaning something else than the English derivation. In Roundstone's case, its name comes from "Cloch na Ròn" which doesn't mean "round stone" but "Seals' Rock".
Despite the fact that we didn't see any seals, Roundstone is a very scenic little village on the Connemara coast. It is extremely popular with artists and craftspeople.
Every late June, the Roundstone Arts Week takes place with participating artists from all over the world.
Other popular activities include fishing and sailing. Nice and clean beaches within 2km.
Wheelchair access limited, the Eldon's Hotel has a disabled toilet, but it's very narrow. |

Fabulous page with brilliant photos. I love that Moored Boat III photo ...I once came accross Roundstone by a local bus, but unfortunately didn't get off there ... :o) |
