"Little Gem Above the River Sieg" Stadt Blankenberg by RhineRoll

Stadt Blankenberg Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 22 photos

On my Sankt Augustin page, I promised you to add some info about the many beautiful places in my vicinity. One of these is the historic city of Blankenberg, a mere 10-mile drive away from my flat.

Blankenberg is situated approximately 30 kms from Cologne and Bonn. It is one of these typical German country towns retaining their historic layout and being wonderfully suitable for a nice daytrip. There are numerous cafes and restaurants, nearly all of them offering beer gardens or nice terraces.

Not Ideal for Wheelchair Users

Wheelchair users should be aware that Blankenberg is built on a slope of the Sieg Valley and therefore is not ideal. My shoulder still hurts from pushing my wheelchair up the hilly streets -- or is it due to the wheelchair basketball tournament yesterday??? Anyway, I haven't seen a disabled toilet around either. I hate to say it, but such is rural Germany -- simply very, very inconsiderate about disabled visitors.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Very nice, neat historic old town above the Sieg valley
  • Cons:very hilly, not good for disabled visitors
