"Park Animals" Banff National Park by RACCOON1
Banff National Park Travel Guide: 780 reviews and 1,488 photos
When you enter the National Parks you will be given a guide which is very comprehensive .
There is a good map and warnings about animals.
Black Bears , Grizzlies and Elk are big and dangerous animals .Grizzlies inhabit the Lake Louise area and along the Highway ( HY #93 ) to Radium. Parks Canada has controls in place to lessen the chance of contact with Grizzlies.
There was a time when Grizzlies would walk onto highway # 93 and then sit on the road to block traffic in an attempt to solicit food ..
To see Big Horn sheep drive the Lake Minnewanka Loop north of Banff . The earlier the better , ie. before 8:00 am. In late May the males will be on the road and they are not afraid to stick their nose through an open car window. In July the babies will be out but close to the forest .
You can find Elk around the Banff Springs Hotel . In May there should be a sizeable group hanging out on the hotel lawns. In the summer you should see a few in the front yard of someones house nearby .
Also try the Golf Course Loop very early ( ie 6:30) before the golfers start their game .

I LOVE Banff National Park!!! Next to France it's my favourite place on earth!!! Am just now building my Banff pages. Yours are just super!!! :o)
My first trip in Canada was in Banff and Jasper. Both are amazing.
Banff, and especially Lake Louise, has gotta be one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Thanks for the helpful tips and pics.
well, canoeing is all very nice, but in water that cold? You must be mad! I'm used to the warm Indian ocean... Great tips though!Anton...
