The 1000 Islands are located at the east end of Lake Ontario and thus are at the headwater of the St. Lawrence River. The USA - Canadian border cuts the Islands if half. After the War of 1812 the British and Americans , finalized the border in this area, and the work was not complete until 1822. The islands have been split 50/50 by area . There are in fact around 1860 islands and as a result of the location of the border Canada has more islands , around 1000.
There are many things to do in the Islands , mostly summer related activities , such as : 1. Fishing 2. Sailing 3. Camping 4. House Boat Renting 5. Jet Boating 6. Staying at your island cottage , if you are rich and what most people do , namely taking a river cruise. |
