| Good economical hawker food |
In Malaysia, Thailand is deemed quite a dangerous place, so it was with some anxiety that I made arrangements for my sister and I to visit it on our own. Then my husband decided to join us and it definitely made me much braver! Bangkok's pollution is not as bad as I imagined, somewhat comparable to the old areas in Kuala Lumpur. The streets are clean. The weather is drier than my home town of Butterworth although August is supposed to be quite wet in Bangkok. The few showers were quickly over before we knew it. The people are very friendly and helpful to tourists. While there, we mainly lived on local food: fried rice, noodle soup and economy rice with various dishes which has some similarity to Chinese food in Malaysia. Prices are about the same as in my home town. Food hawkers normally offer free ice water and we drank it with no ill effects felt. Maybe our Malaysian stomachs are tougher! What I most enjoyed was the easy availability of cut fresh fruit and fresh handpressed juices at affordable prices. |
