Hong Kong was my home for three years. I went with curious eyes as I remembered very little from my last trip there which was almost 15 years ago! It was exciting because I was beginning a new life - I had just gotten married, was getting my own home and was looking forward to a new city.

I ended up seeing most of the tourist spots much later - and it was usually while accompanying a visitor. My husband and I then began discovering a side of Hong Kong most tourists miss. We began to explore its countryside and discovered the beach that we like to call our own. It is a great city for hiking and some of the best sights of Hong Kong island are seen on one of its trails.

It is a city that never sleeps - though we did see it sleep during the economic downturn. Suddenly places that used to be bustling at four in the morning were closing by one in the night. It was very odd to see a city on the move all the time to bear a slightly deserted look. But it is back to its old-self. We still miss Hong Kong occasionally - that's where we began our life together and it will hold a special place in our hearts always.
