If the firsts impressions are conclusive, I can say that my first impression on Santorini was overwhelming.
Just knowing the geological history of the island that has a decisive influence on his human history, it's enough to be astonished. Simply that.
The results of the cataclismic events that shaped the island is the most exciting beauty that I remember. And I say "exciting" because when you think about the soil that you steps, well... you never know when the earth fury starts again. Exciting, definitely.

The island is a volcano, and the greeks loves living hanged on the cliff, looking to the sleeping monster. The life is calm during the day, pleasant, and the weather is sweet and warm. By night the modern life take the control and a stream of tourists start moving looking for fun and dancing.
Each square meter of Santorini has a special beauty, and a breathtaking view. The village I do prefer is Oia, bohemian and more silent than the capital Fira, with his shaking nightlife.
Anyway, when I want strong emotions just drive in Fira after 10 pm.

The inhabitants of Santorini are friendly and hospitables. Of course there are different kinds of characters, like everyplaces around the world, but when you met deeply this people then becomes in great friends.
