The 'Dam

Let's Go To Town

Canal Cruising
Amsterdam - famous city - full of nice places - lot's of history - and great for a few days of wildness. Let's face it, most people that go to Amsterdam are either there for some sort of visit to see the Dutch Masters like Rembrandt or a Canal Trip around the City. Then there are the weekend stag parties that inevitibly end up in The Red Light Area. Having stayed in Nederlands for a few years I have to admit that I am not a great fan of Amsterdam, before moving to Holland I had been there a few times on visits and had seen the touristy things, so when I eventually settled in Tilburg ( way south of Amsterdam ) I did venture up a couple of times, it's seedy, can be expensive, quite predictable and can also be a great laugh - but that happens in most cities in Nederlands and Belgium - so I tended to not go to the dam as much as some people would think. In the UK most people think Amsterdam is Holland, they think it's the only city in Holland but it's not. Don't get me wrong - millions of people will enjoy themselves there but I just think there is more to Holland than a Red Light Area.
Dam Square

A Few Day's In the 'Dam

Hello everyone - just got back from a few days in Amsterdam, was over with some of my work colleagues and had a goed time. Very fortuneate to get a hotel almost right on Dam Square which was extremely handy, the hotel was certainly not the Ritz but it had it's benefits - although the five of us that were there made a little pact, " What happened in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam " So don't ask !
We went to some nice pubs, clubs, cafes, some of us even went shopping and to museums ! and also some picturesque places. All in all this was one of my more enjoyable trips to Amsterdam.
My Office in Amsterdam

Working Week in Amsterdam

Was over in the dam on business a week or so ago - was staying in area that I had previously just wandered through, Spuuistraat. Hotel was excellent, nice views over the Spiegel Canal towards the flower market, but there are also some great cafes and restaurants around there too - still had time to visit my favourite wee pub ( See General tips ) and some of the other places - all in all a good weeks work and pleasure.

Hi Robert, great Amsterdam Arena tip. You've been there with Celtic. I saw them some years ago in Bremen. The Celtic fans have been loud and friendly. I'm a fan of Hannover 96. They also have a great new Arena..Regards from Lower SAxony, Michael
