Dirty Old Town | From the river clyde towards the centre of town |
Glasgow is where I was born and raised. It has changed quite a bit in that time though, some say for the better - others I feel would still prefer the old place. I have done a fair bit of travelling now and feel that I can judge Glasgow against some other places, I have worked in other countries also and can see the difference in people - I would like to comment and let people know about some of these things. |
| | The Changes As a place Glasgow has changed a lot, the things that Glasgow was once famous for are mostly all gone, hopefully that would include the bad things. Not that I can actually remember it but it was once a thriving port with ships from afar taking all sorts of things and people to various parts of the world. Glasgow now has an exhibition centre, a science centre and very soon will have nice new apartments on what was once all either dockland or ship related land. This picture shows The Moat House Hotel - next to the Exhibition Centre and directly facing The Science Centre. All of this was once docks. It is taken from the Bells Bridge which was built to accomodate the famous Glasgow Garden Festival which took place a few years back. |
| | In Town Apparantly Glasgow is second only to London in the UK for shopping facilities, not that I go out shopping a lot, I tend to decide what I want and go straight to that shop, but this picture is taken from the corner of Cambridge St and Sauchiehall St in Glasgow City Centre, Sauchiehall St is one of the most famous streets in Glasgow, don't worry if you cannot say it, even people from Glasgow get tongue tied with it ! Anyway it's a fairly long street with one part starting in the City Centre at the new Buchananan Galleries shopping mall, it then fires straight out towards the West End of Glasgow finishing at the magnificent art galleries and museum buildings from where you can also see Glasgow Universtity and The Kelvin Hall Sports Complex. The city centre has changed also, there are a few more upmarket areas such as the Italian Centre and Princess Square for really cool clothes and designer stuff, but we also have shopping malls such Buchananan Galleries and The St Enoch Centre for all types of High St stores. |
