"Lomond Shores and beyond" a Loch Lomond Travel Page by RPW

I went up to the Lomond shores shopping area in early February this year for a day out - the weather was cold but the picture would make you think that you were in warmer climates - this is taken from the jetty next to the old paddle steamer "Maid of the Loch". The picture is taken from the edge of the river Leven as you leave Balloch and you are looking Northwards up the loch to Ardlui.

This is the famous old paddle steamer, Maid of the Loch. For years it plied it's trade on the loch and then regretably it was left for far too long and ended up in a very bad way, more recently however things have improved for the old maid. A couple of years back when this area was redeveloped in to the Lomond Shore outlet they also managed to raise the boat from the waters and give her a bit of an overhaul - it's not finished yet, but at least she is looking a bit healthier - the day I visited they kindly let me board and I could see that work is continuing internally.
