Going backwards....

It's not often that you visit somewhere in Greece that is becoming LESS touristy, but Kalymnos is just that. The package tour companies have in the main pulled out leaving only independent travellers and climbers to fill the void. The result is a very Greek place to spend your time....

Pothia

Pothia is the main town and port - bigger than Kos town, but with very few concessions to tourism (the cafes on the front, while stylish, are not tourist traops - Greek prices). THe buildings are very attractive and the setting stunning. I loved it - very vibrant and resolutely Greek!

Favourite places

Telendos at sunset

I stayed in Massouri, which has got just the right amount of bustle at night...Telendos is beautiful and peaceful and Emborios - I fell in love....

Pros and Cons

Pros:Dramatic, friendly and extremely Greek!
Cons:Not for you if you're a beach nut!

Just written my Kalymnos page from 1985 so it's nice to see it today. Thankfully, Emborios doesn't look to have changed too much.

this loos wonderful - any more pics? maybe somewhere for next year. Many thanks for the extra pics and info - now I know how steep the walking is!
