"Abbazia" a Opatija Travel Page by Glorija

Situated below the mountain 1.401 m highand Nature Park Ucka, Opatija (old name: Abbazia) is a great choice for a vacation in summer and winter season. Beautiful nature, parks, old Austrian villas, seaside promenade and beaches attract tourists from Europe and all over the world for more then 160 years. Opatija is the leading tourist destination in the Republic of Croatia for the organization of conventions.

Visiting Opatija for 3 days was because of pilates training. There was body & mind weekend going on and we decided to go. It was a nice experience and I learned it is necessary to go away for few days with girls more often. ;)

First day the weather was horrible. It was raining all the time and we were mostly inside the hotel relaxing in spa. The second day a lot of programs for pilates workout was introduced one of them was body technics which I found very attractive. In the evening we just enjoyed the music and talked like mostly every minute we spended together. :) The third and the last day the sunshine welcomed us and so we decided to go around Opatija and explore a little bit of area. It was magnificant. I found Opatija relaxing place with lots of attractions. Maybe it has too many hotels beside the beach but I quess tourism is number one there. Well in general: interesting place worth visiting for one day!

Opatija was being recommended as a well-kept "Terrain Kurort" from as early as 1907.

Opatija is located in the Bay of Kvarner (45o 20') at the point where the Mediterranean reaches most deeply into the European continent. Mount Ucka and the nearby islands provide good shelter from strong winds for this tourist resort that can easily be reached at any time throughout the year.
