A Culturally Rich Country

Through the Eyes of a Child
India is a very multi-dimensional country. It is rich with culture, history and people of diverse backgrounds. There are 18 distinct languages spoken throughout the country. The unifying languages being Hindi and English. I had the opportunity to embrace the culture and the people. After all India is a country, moreso than others, whose people and culture are its defining characteristics

Having family in India who are familiar with the culture and customs made it easier for me to travel and communicate. I also speak Punjabi and understand Hindi to some extent, which comes in extremely handy. For those traveling by themselves, India is a difficult country to make your way around. Things usually take twice as long and can be frustrating at times. Traveling in India undoubtely will be an amazing experience. However, it can also be very exhausting and exasperating.

The one thing that no tourist can get past in India is the poverty. Mostly women and children begging for food and money. And as foreigners they prey on our sympathy. I have never seen so many beggers (of all ages) and homeless people in life.

As an avid photographer capturing the the bright colors, the spirit of the people, as well as the country itself was a dream come true. The faces of the children speak volumes. I enjoyed capturing their innocence and wide-eyed stares.

This was not my first visit to India. In fact, I was born there, but immigrated to the United States with my family when I was 1 years old. This was however, my most memorable trip.

Take a look at my following India pages:
Agra - Taj Mahal, Red Fort
Amritsar - The Golden Temple
Punjab/Chandigarh
New Delhi - The Indian Capital
Shimla - Himalayas
