Getting TO/AROUND: To a casual observer (me changing trains) it doesn't look as though they have made terribly much progress in the last few months in their huge project of modernizing and rebuilding the main railway station in Erfurt.

But they do still seem to be hard at work, and when it's finished this should be a highly modern and efficient station, fitting for the large numbers of InterCityExpress (ICE) trains that stop here every day. The rebuilding of the station began in 2003, and is supposed to be finished by 2007.

Possibly even more ICE trains will stop here in future years, if the proposed new high-speed line from Nürnberg via Erfurt to Leipzig is ever built. But even if it isn't (and I'm not at all sure it is a sensible idea, since it would be insanely expensive and would divert funds from other more urgent projects), Erfurt will still remain a major changing point between lines going off in various directions. (I changed here for Dessau, for example.)

Icredible, this inhabited bridge. I knew it was common in the past, but I am surprized to see there is still one in Germany. However the street looks cute, I am not sure I would live to live in one of those houses.

Most interesting reading - Erfurt was one of three cities we wanted to visit but just didn't have time, for its historic significance and ambience. Your ground level picture of the Gera is really good and I loved the roof pictures. N.

Lovely views of Erfurt from the top of the Church. I've never heard of an inhabited bridge before. And those Thuringer sausages sure look delicious. Also thanks for visiting my Durban pages.
