Ordinarily I don't stay overnight in Karlsruhe, because I can just as well go back to Frankfurt on the train, but for the occasion of the big VT meeting "EuroMeet 2008" I made an exception and booked a single room for two nights at this hotel "Am Tiergarten".
The best thing about it is the location, since it is just opposite the main railway station and directly adjoining the zoo, so if the weather is nice you can eat breakfast outdoors on their terrace right by the park at the zoo entrance. (But don't worry, there are no smelly zoo animals nearby to spoil your appetite for breakfast.)
Another good thing is that the streets in this part of Karlsruhe have been somewhat pacified so there isn't much through traffic to make noise at night.
Otherwise it's just a perfectly normal hotel.
I booked through www.hrs.de and got a fairly reasonable price, but they say that if you book directly through the hotel's website you can save three euros per room and night, except on weekends.
Second and third photos: The terrace at the Hotel and Café Leucht.
Fourth photo: Their breakfast buffet was nothing extraordinary, but perfectly adequate in my opinion.

freddie18 Sun Aug 23, 2009 05:09 UTC Very informative and full of history is your Karlsruhe page. Well written tips Don. I enjoyed reading. Will be back. | scottishvisitor Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:32 UTC Enjoyed your updated page Don :) Nice to see VT meets in all seasons! | alancollins Fri Jun 26, 2009 07:19 UTC I have been looking at Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden for a future trip, as recent airfares have been very low recently. | nicolaitan Thu Sep 25, 2008 17:51 UTC such an interesting page - see why all you guys have regular VT meetings here. And any museum with 400 cat pictures is certainly my type of museum. Seems every city in Europe has so many museums and cultural sites, enviable. N. |
