Main River Tour

by Nemorino - last update: Aug 21, 2009

Würzburg and the Main River from Marienberg

The "Off the Beaten Path" tips on this page all have to do with cycling along the banks of the Main River.

These are tips that were previously scattered over several different pages. I have brought them together here in geographical order, starting at Würzburg and continuing downstream to the end of the Main River, where it flows into the Rhine at the Mainspitze between Mainz and Wiesbaden.

A couple more bicycle tours on my pages:
-- Tauber Valley Tour from Weikersheim to Wertheim.
-- Spessart Tour from Bad Orb to Gemünden.
-- Fulda Valley Tour from Fulda to Bad Hersfeld and then on to Rotenburg an der Fulda.

Local Customs in Germany
Local Customs in Germany

Since my Frankfurt am Main page was starting to get somewhat large and unwieldy, I have moved all the Local Customs tips (and a few others) over here to my Germany page. These are all tips that apply to the whole country of Germany, not only to Frankfurt am Main. I have also moved the Local Customs tips from my Bad Orb page over here, for the same reason.

And if by any chance you are looking for my Frankfurt Skyline Countdown, you can now find it on my Land Hessen page.

The Semper Opera House in Dresden
Opera in Germany

At last count there were eighty-six functioning professional opera houses in Germany (more than in any other country in the world, I believe), as listed in the Yearbook of Opernwelt magazine for 2008.

I have seen performances in fifty-three of these opera houses so far -- hope to get around to the other thirty-three in the next few years.

On my homepage there is a list of the fifty-three German opera houses that I have have been to so far. (The list used to be here, but I have moved it over to my homepage for the time being.)

I really enjoy your local custom explanations. In my early years the "stamp collection" was a very common invitation also in Hungary, but novadays no longer. Best. L.

Loved the humour in your local customs :))

How about that!--you mentioned Heidelberg Cement even before it became a topic for the newspapers. Thanks, Don...

Don, interesting new tips since my last visit of your massive Germany page. I definitely agree that the train trip along the Rhine is much more scenic than the high speed route between Frankfurt and Cologne.
