After a lot of clicking around on the internet I have come to the conclusion that hotel rooms in Amsterdam are more expensive than in most other cities. For a small single room under the roof with its own toilet and shower here at the Rho Hotel I paid 99 Euros per night, which is nearly twice as much as I paid for a similar room in Paris a few weeks later.
The hotel was okay, though. Breakfast was included, and the location is very central.
They say the building was once used by an Amsterdam gold trading company. The reception and lobby were originally a theater, built in 1908 in Art-Deco style.

As a museum lover, I know I would favor a visit to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum if I were visiting Amsterdam. I got a kick out of the taxi bike...never saw anything like this in my life. However, it may be larger than a smart car..... | jumpingnorman Tue Jun 23, 2009 15:56 UTC
I still haven't watched an opera, Don but I am glad I don't have to wear a tux! The only time I wore one was at a sister's wedding...also, Arizona law still does not require bikers to have helmets - and so there a motorbikers with no helmets on freeways | hopang Wed May 27, 2009 14:34 UTC
The Opera House, Concertgebouw, the museums and the Dutch Theater certainly look amazing! Canal boat tour was our favourite attraction when visiting Amsterdam. Bring back fond memories of our trip to that city on several occasions. ~ho & pang | Zvrlj Fri May 15, 2009 20:45 UTC
