Japan, hosting Yukijohn

by chodearm - last update: Aug 25, 2004

Japan is a long flight, 18 hours stuck in a tube, 8 inch headrest television keeping my eyes open here and there. Before this flight I always stay awake for two consecutive days. Not only to battle the definate jet lag, but of the 18 hours I want only two with eyelids 100 percent open, the other 16 can be slightly ajar or sealed shut with white crust. Food awakens me due to hunger not want, its need that urges the lids to lift. Plane meals are never sought after its only necessity. After making the arch over the Pacific the wheels screech out that quick burst of smoke on Naritas runway. Narita Japan serves the Tokyo area and acts as a gateway for most flights entering from the east into Asia. The airport is in acualaity an hour from Tokyo. A people mover train will set you underneath the city where one can submerge into complete chaotic city commotion or choose to spread out into the counryside transferring to trainlines that spin from the center like a spider web of soughts.
Mishima tends to be my resting place when arriving. It sits at the center of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. While my extensive stays on this volcanic discharge, I have seen quite a bit of Honshu, the main lava deposit. I drove the coast from Tokyo to Osaka, daytripped to Kamakura, stayed in Hakone, trained it to Kyoto and Nara and many stops less mentionable here. Staying in the countryside and freely roaming was my way to see and experience this mysterious society. All speak of the contrasts which are so evident in Tokyo and other cosmopolitan centers, but its the real soul that lives throughout the society that keeps me so enthralled. Its the soft spoken rollercoaster of the Japanese language or the smiles of saddness that still amaze me. The true understandng and appreciation of all things in nature and the work ethic of millions chopping away work week that will make you cry. JAPAN IS AN AWE-INSPIRING PLACE!
