Since I first came to Socotra in December, 2003, I have learned what an incredibly unique place this is, and how wonderful the local people are. I also feel somewhat awed with the thought that in 2003, only 280 foreigners came to this island, many associated with the UNDP and the Socotra Conservation and Development Program. Tourist have yet to discover that there are still places like this in the world, untouched, unspoiled, and mostly unknown. But I fear that will soon change as Socotra has started to see the first few tourists visit the island. There is so much to see and do here that a couple of weeks on the island leaves one with the feeling that they should stay longer.
