We arrived in Vienna via the overnight train from Venice. We found a taxi and told him the Hotel Sacher. He was very displeased by the amount of our luggage but it fit without problems. Once we arrived at the Sacher, we were greeted politely, told that our room was ready, and we had been complimentarily upgraded. This was at 8:00am in the morning which is unheard of. All of our baggage dissapeared with the porter and we were given a personal tour of the hotel. After being shown our room, we went down to breakfast. The breakfast buffet at the Sacher had to be the best breakfast in Europe. |

| | Sights and Sounds The Liechtenstein museum opened on the day we arrived. It includes the most outstanding works by Raphael, Guido Reni, Peter Paul Rubens, Pieter Breughel the Younger and Jan Breughel the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals, Rembrandt, Rudolf von Alt, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Friedrich von Amerling, and Francesco Hayez.
Schonbrunn palace is another can't miss. You could get lost on the grounds which also contains a zoo, coffeehouse, beer garden, and extensive gardens.
Try to catch a performance or morning workout of the famous Lipizzaner horses at the Spanish Riding School.
The Prader Amusement Park is a great place to spend an afternoon. The ferris wheel is a must at sunset and the Schweizerhaus is Vienna's most famous beer garden.
One of the things I enjoyed about Vienna the most was the Vienna Philharmonic. We saw a performance of Golgotha and it was a great experience. You can order tickets onlin and they will send the tickets to your hotel in advance of your stay. |
| | More Sights and Sounds Try to hit every coffee house in Vienna. Those were some of my best memories, relaxing with a melange and a pastry, and just talking.
The Mozart memorial is hard to find, but worth it.
St. Stephan's Cathedral is another must see. The details inside are incredible.
You cant forget Demel's. The most famous and probably expensive chocolate in Vienna. |
