I would highly recommend Hotel Tigra to anyone who is visiting Vienna and wants to be close to all the main attractions. The hotel is right in the first district which couldn't be better. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were spacious and you're within walking distance to the trams that take you around the Ringstrasse (among other places). The room price is about average for a hotel in Vienna (which tend to run on the pricey side). Mozart once stayed at the Hotel Tigra. You may get a funny look if you say you're staying at a hotel on Tiefer Graben. Apparently (from what my friend who lives there says), there's an 'hourly' hotel on the same street that is quite famous for being the place where important people carry out their affairs. Who knew.
Unique Qualities: There are air conditioned AND non-air conditioned rooms. Be careful when you make your reservation that you choose correctly. It was incredibly hot when I was in Vienna, so the AC was nice. The rooms have a modern touch with a built in radio, high speed internet connection and a very large bathroom. The toilet is in it's own room. There's plenty of space to unpack and store your clothes. There is plenty of lamps and the bed lights are quite cute (sorry, I'm a girl!) and have a swivel-type head so you can direct the light where you want it. There's an incredible breakfast buffet every morning. It includes different juices, coffee, eggs, bacon, various meats/cheeses, many different breads, cereals, and cakes. I know I'm probably forgetting something. As a vegetarian, I found it to have enough options for me (I'm lacto-ovo).

The Kaiserpark Schönbrunn Hotel overlooks Schönbrunn Palace and has a unique charm about it. Maybe because it was originally built as the castle's guesthouse back in 1903. It was done in typical Viennese style of the period. When I walked in the hotel, I was greeted by a smiling face. The staff was eager to help me get situated and very, very friendly. I sat in the lobby for a while and enjoyed some coffee. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The price may seem a bit high, but Vienna can be an expensive city. You also have to take into account that you're very close to an extremely popular attraction.
Unique Qualities: The Kaiserpark Schönbrunn Hotel overlooks Schönbrunn Palace - which is very convenient. The interior has a more historical feel to it, but not everything makes you feel like you're in the past. The bathroom is big (see my picture!) and quite modern-looking. The hotel has an elevator and stairs. The elevator is a bit small, but it serves its purpose. The rooms are of a decent size with plenty of room to unpack your items. There is a breakfast buffet. I didn't go down to it, but my friend did and said it had normal breakfast items such as meats/breads/juices

spoonee8 Sat Feb 17, 2007 22:26 UTC All of these comments are true EXCEPT for the comment about waiting for everyone else before eating or drinking. This is absolutley NOT true of the Viennese. In fact, they find that quite strange. | themajor Tue Jun 28, 2005 23:39 UTC A splendid start to your Vienna pages Erin. Good detailed tips too! Even after four visits I still find myself eager to return to this beautiful city. By the way, have you ever thought of selling bathrooms professionally? Nice technique you've got there! | littlesam1 Wed Aug 11, 2004 19:27 UTC I was in Vienna in April. We must have just missed each other. | morgane1692 Mon May 24, 2004 08:26 UTC Europe in May? Cold and warm, dry and rainy, and yes there's that wind alright! My cotton clothes are doing me sooo much good here, but who cares, right? When I leave I will miss it all, more than life itself, one of those things...;-) |
