Restaurant Name: Cafe Landtmann
My friend and I had a wonderful start to our day at Cafe Landtmann. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside I decided to have the famous Austrian pastry the apfelstrudel and was glad I picked it. It was yummy. If you plan to sit outside and have any fear of birds - you may want to sit inside. The little finch birds that are around Cafe Landtmann want you to feed them. They have no problem landing on your table to watch you eat. They are not afraid of people and if you turn your head for a moment, you'll find a bird chowing down on your food!
Favorite Dish: The apfelstrudel was wonderful. The birds thought so too.

Restaurant Name: mas!
My friend Philipp, his sister Kathi, her boyfriend Donny and myself headed to ¡mas! on Cinco de Mayo. We thought we'd celebrate even though most people in Austria had never heard of the holiday. It was definitely a stylish, hip looking place with nice chill music in the background. The margaritas were great and my friend ordered a Long Island Ice tea and it was the largest one I have ever seen! No. Seriously, it was huge. After we were finished our meal, we were given free tequila shots ... perhaps because we knew what Cinco de Mayo was ... perhaps because we were entertaining to the waitress!
Favorite Dish: The smoked salmon quesadillas were great.

Restaurant Name: Cafe Stein
Cafe Stein was an easy choice for my friend and I to stop and get something to eat (well, he ate) since he lived in the ninth district. There were all sorts of people there - which made for good people watching.
Favorite Dish: I only had some fresh squeezed orange juice ... but it was darn good.

spoonee8 Sat Feb 17, 2007 22:26 UTC All of these comments are true EXCEPT for the comment about waiting for everyone else before eating or drinking. This is absolutley NOT true of the Viennese. In fact, they find that quite strange. | themajor Wed Jun 29, 2005 00:39 UTC A splendid start to your Vienna pages Erin. Good detailed tips too! Even after four visits I still find myself eager to return to this beautiful city. By the way, have you ever thought of selling bathrooms professionally? Nice technique you've got there! | littlesam1 Wed Aug 11, 2004 20:27 UTC I was in Vienna in April. We must have just missed each other. | morgane1692 Mon May 24, 2004 09:26 UTC Europe in May? Cold and warm, dry and rainy, and yes there's that wind alright! My cotton clothes are doing me sooo much good here, but who cares, right? When I leave I will miss it all, more than life itself, one of those things...;-) |
