Jeez - I never got around to finishing my tips from *last* year and here I am trying to add stuff from my most recent trip. Typical. The story remains the same ... I went to Vienna to visit one of my close friends (Philipp) who now resides there. My first trip was in May 2004 and I was lucky to have free place to stay and a built-in tour guide! I wasn't sure what to think of Vienna before I arrived there. I had always had a list of places I wanted to see and Vienna wasn't my first choice (look at me being all honest), but since Philipp lives there I thought I should check it out ... see how it compared to his former home of Baltimore, Maryland. My first glances of Vienna were from Philipp's car window and I looked at the buildings with a sense of awe. Without even knowing what the buildings were, I knew that they were older than anything I had seen in the States. That's something that stuck with me while I was in Vienna - there are buildings older than the country I'm from. Humbles you a bit, I must say. I have a daily account of my first trip to Vienna on my personal website. If you are interested please feel free to visit it.. I linked the entry that I wrote in the airport and there are 10 days of entries after that! I'll eventually get around to putting up the May 2005 trip. |

I fell in the love with Vienna after my first visit. My only regret was not knowing a lot of German. I relied on Philipp way too much that first trip. When I went in May 2005, I knew a bit more German (still not enough to my liking) and I really enjoyed speaking what little German I knew with the Austrians. A good portion of people in Vienna speak English, though. |
I hope to work more on my Vienna tips and add some more pictures from my two trips there soon. Really. No, REALLY. |

spoonee8 Sat Feb 17, 2007 22:26 UTC All of these comments are true EXCEPT for the comment about waiting for everyone else before eating or drinking. This is absolutley NOT true of the Viennese. In fact, they find that quite strange. | themajor Wed Jun 29, 2005 00:39 UTC A splendid start to your Vienna pages Erin. Good detailed tips too! Even after four visits I still find myself eager to return to this beautiful city. By the way, have you ever thought of selling bathrooms professionally? Nice technique you've got there! | littlesam1 Wed Aug 11, 2004 20:27 UTC I was in Vienna in April. We must have just missed each other. | morgane1692 Mon May 24, 2004 09:26 UTC Europe in May? Cold and warm, dry and rainy, and yes there's that wind alright! My cotton clothes are doing me sooo much good here, but who cares, right? When I leave I will miss it all, more than life itself, one of those things...;-) |
