Ole! Mazatlan has redeemed the Mexico I thought existed. A regular city with all the trimmings, plus a tourist area called the "Golden Zone", with many fine hotels and restaurants. The city itself is self-sustaining and tourism is treated as an added plus, not overly pushy or "pamphlet in the face about time shares" or the bargain shopping items attitude. This makes for the ideal vacation destination where the city is near, but the tourist can chill out and enjoy the tropical weather without too much vendor pushing. By the way, mazatlan Mexico and Waikiki, Hawaii, share the same latitude for great beach time, but the prices in Mazatlan are more tourist friendly. Commmercial shrimp fishing, with Mazatlan having the largest fleet of shrimp boats in Mexico is one of the top money makers for the city. Pacifico Beer is another large commercial company that calls Mazatlan home, with the popular beer now being exported. Truly a great vacation destination. |
