CAMBRIA, ARTIST RETREAT AND OCEANSIDE GETAWAY

Looking for the perfect weekend getaway in California. Quiet, clean, and near the Pacific Ocean on the central coast sits Cambria. The town is divided in two parts, the east and the west and in a way the ocean front, Moonstone Beach, could be the third part

The east and west portions are very similar with restaurants, chic boutiques, and art stores. The ocean section is filling with motels and even B&B's are in the area. San Simeon is only a short drive to the north on Hwy 1 and Morro Bay to the south. San Luis Obispo is close by as well, sitting at the junction of Hwy1 and US 101.

EAST SIDE

The original section of town with the large antique stores and the chic boutiques. Many fine restaurants in this section of town.

WEST SIDE

The new kids in town have built this section very similar to the East side but there seems to be more tourist items in this stretch of town.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A wonderful beach side community.
  • Cons:Overcrowded with tourists on the weekends.
  • In a nutshell:Peace and quiet in a clean environment.

Cambria's one of our favorite stops on the PCH because the ocean is right at the door - it's so entertaining to watch the sea otters from the pathway and walk the beach. Lovely photos!

I have driven HW1 only twice and enjoyed the great landscapes. I will have to come back another time for Cumbria as Olallieberry pie seems worth the travel!

Cambria looks absolutely wonderful. Oh I agree, Hwy 1 is fabulous. Some of the most lovely communities are all along the way. Nice page!
