THE I-80 TOURIST GOLD RUSH TOURIST TOWN

Auburn is the place where all good tourists go. Why? Well, it is a great stopping point for those driving the San Francisco area to Lake Tahoe/Reno. Gasoline stations and restaurants are plenty, but so is the history of the California Gold Rush along Hwy 49. Besides the restaurants and gasoline stations, many interesting and unique stores are located in Auburn in the old town section.

Can't miss the area, as a large statue of a gold panning 49er fronts the town. Take the time to walk around the four block area of the town to see the old historic buildings, check out the many shops, or sit down to a mountain air induced hunger at one of the local restaurants. There is more than gold in these hills for tourists to enjoy themselves, whether for an hour's rest from driving or a day of exploring.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Tourist haven
  • Cons:Not enough time
  • In a nutshell:Auburn, not just a rest stop for tourists if you plan ahead.
