Cannes. Just the name alone brings visions of glamour, great seafood, and the beautiful sea. Cannes fame is through the film industry these days and the famous Cannes International Film Festival (Festival De Cannes) is known world wide. Unless you are in the film industry or a fanatical fan, don't plan to be around this madness of the arts. Just the paparazzi alone can drive you crazy. There are enough tourists the rest of the year to out manuver for a table at a restaurant, so plan accordingly if you want to truly enjoy a stay or visit to Cannes. In 2011, the film festival will be from May 11-22.
But, besides this claim to fame through the film industry there is also the port itself with the hundreds of yachts and sailboats owned by the rich and famous. Well, you would have to be at least rich. Just the dock fees and mooring charges are pricey. Getting an opportunity to ride out into the vast sea and along the coast, is a dream come true for many a would be sailor.
The restaurants that line the coast are all competing for your Euro with the plates of seafood fit for a king or queen. The hills of Cannes above the port are a great way to see the locals and how they live and play in this vibrant town. A walk up to Le Suquet via rue Louis Blanc is filled with boutique shops and restaurants. The view from on high is worth the climb to the top of the hill. Cannes beaches are many along the Bay of Cannes. The city of Cannes is a good example of what the French Riviera is all about.
- Pros:Seaside Beauty
- Cons:Come with lots of Euros
- In a nutshell:Own an apartment to holiday in, would do. I would, if I could. Wouldn't you?

Thank you Larry for bringing back sweet memory out of my trip to Cannes far ago... It's time to revisit it with a digital camera, haha!
More - more - I wanna see more! Beautiful! <(•¿•)>
I may be crazy- but I would prefer being in the backstreets to sitting on a yacht.Le Suquet looks interesting. Good photos and excellent restuarant tip.
Wonderful place for the rich and famous - Cannes!!! But look at that seafood platter - WOW! Norman :)
We will be in cannes on a Sunday or Monday. Can we still visit this area for shopping?
You are right, better not to dream on the vessels anchored in the harbor! Unless you can afford one, of course! Haha, great seafood platters! Amazingly, Astoux et Brun is not listed in any of the main French guides?! Known worldwide except in France?
This writer, looks for the good and sees the rainbow, others seem to be under a dark cloud. perhaps they were having an off night as well. :-)
I'm glad that this writer had a great meal at Astoux, because we certainly didn't! The seafood was okay - just okay - but the service was indifferent and I was served an undrinkable glass of white wine. Perhaps they just had an off night - but yuk!
Great pic of the catamaran sailing into the sunset.
