Viva Las Vegas

Everything glitters in Vegas, even Mickey D's

The Flights

Boy, no one should miss Vegas. That is a "thing to do before you die" type of place.

I traveled to Vegas in January 2003. The weather wasn't bad. Much better than the sweltering heat of the summer.

I flew from Huntington, WV (through Atlanta) on Delta. We got roundtrip tickets for $228, practically unheard of.

Arrival at McCarran was smooth, baggage claim was easy to find. We decided to rent a car since we wanted to visit Hoover Dam and didn't want to waste alot of money on taxis.

We rented a car from Payless. They offered a shuttle bus to their office near the airport. We hopped into our car and hit the road!

The Hotel

We stayed at Treasure Island. We were able to snag a nice room for $59 midweek. We were very happy with the hotel's amenties, casino and restaurants.

Hard to believe but we never caught the Pirate Show the whole 4 days. We always kept missing it and didn't want to wait around for it. Maybe next time.

Overall & Sights

Overall, we found Vegas to be pretty easy to get around with the rental car. Almost every hotel offers free valet parking so you just drop your car at the door, check out the hotels and casinos and go on your way (with a small tip, of course)

We drove out to Hoover Dam, which is only about 30-45 minutes away and did some sightseeing.

Overall, you can go to Vegas on a shoestring (hotel, shows, food, etc). Air might be your single biggest cost. I would travel mid-week to be sure since you can often get the best hotel prices. However, if you stay over a Saturday night, your airfare normally is significantly reduced as well.

Pros:"Cheap, easy to get around"
Cons:"Crowds, going home broke"
In A Nutshell:"Great bargain getaway for a few days."
