Nettuno - My home in transition (April- June 1989)

Nettuno is a town of Latina province in the Latium region of Italy, 60 kilometers south of Rome. It is named in honor of the Roman god Neptune. A resort city and agricultural center on the Tyrenian Sea, it has a population of approximately 34,000.

The Nettuno American Cemetery and Memorial is the burial site for almost eight thousand American soldiers who died in the battle following the Allied landing at Nettuno and the neighbouring city of Anzio during WWII.

Nettuno is a town I called home for 3 month during 1989, while waiting for US entry visa. During late eighties (87-90), Nettuno was one of the transit points for Soviet Jews from Russia to USA, Canada , Australia and Israel at one time (1989) reaching 25,000 people almost doubling population of the town. By mid 1990 all of the Soviet Jews left for the country of their destination. I visited town again in October of 1999, which brought all good memories from decade ago. Same streets, houses, beaches even ice cream stand next to the Church a front of the beach still where.

Via Siccia 19
