I've wanted to go to Egypt (for the archaeology, obviously) ever since I was a child and first learned about ancient Egypt. But there has never been the money to do so (single parent for many, many years).
But my children are now adults and settled, and I was on holiday in Cyprus over Christmas and funds are reason able, so when the opporunity to take a daytrip (!) to Egypt arose I thought 'Yes...now is the time'. So I did it.
And, although it was the most expensive daytrip I shall ever take, and although it was a truly whirlwind tour, I saw so much and had such a wonderful experience that I am really, really glad I went. My jaw ached from being dropped from the moment I set foot on Egyptian tarmac at the airport to the moment I took my seat on the flight back!
I can't really say I've been to Egypt, of course. I've been to some little bits of
Cairo and
Giza. But I am definitely, definitely going back to at least see Luxor and some of Upper Egypt; this tiny taste has convinced me.
If you're in Cyprus, and you have the funds, do the daytrip; you won't regret it!
